Kind Plumber Fixes Family’s Water Woes

It was a frigid day in January when Carole Bateman and her family got the news. Their water line was leaking sending water running down the street in front of their home in Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights neighborhood. The water company reluctantly had to shut their service off because water was freezing on the sidewalk and street, causing a danger to their neighbors. Next came the sticker shock of what it would take to fix the problem… anywhere from $6,000 to $8,000.

Carole is an 84 year old grandmother who lives on a fixed income and couldn’t even dream of coming up with that kind of money. Fearing the worst, she had her grand daughter reach out to us for help. We’d already seen the good deeds done by our friends at Matt Mertz Plumbing, so I reached out to see if they could scope out the problem for Carole. What happened next is simply heartwarming. Not only did they find out what the problem was, Matt and Lisa Mertz had a crew there working to fix the problem the very next morning.

Ron Orlowski with Matt Mertz Plumbing told us how they would take care of it:

In the end, Matt Mertz Plumbing took care of the entire repair job, every penny. Carole, who lives in that home with her daughter who is disabled with COPD, was so grateful for the help. Her water was back on by the end of that day.
