Theres a real life Santa living in Fayette County, PA and he has bins and boxes of homemade toys to prove it.
Ed Higinbotham is 93 years old, but that hasnt stopped him from making hundreds of toys in his woodshop each year. He spends months making the wooden toys, including horses, tractors, cars and trucks. Then, he works with local police officers to distribute them to children in the community, just in time for Christmas.
Higinbotham has been making the toys for a few years now and hes grown quite popular with people in the area especially the kids, who get to take the toys home with them. The toys are made of a light oak, so children can paint them or just enjoy the natural color of the wood.
Its not every day that you actually get a homemade wooden toy, Trooper Robert Broadwater told WTAE-TV. And I think the young people appreciate that.
Broadwater has been working with Higinbotham to collect and distribute the toys. He posted a photo on Thursday to the troops Twitter page with the caption, 93 year old toymaker at it again!! Just picked up 300 wooden trucks from Ed Higinbotham to be distributed to local kids this Christmas.
As for the popular comparison of Higinbotham to a certain man with a white beard and a large red sack full of toys, he shrugs it off with a laugh.
“It’s just something that I enjoy doing, and now I make somebody else happy, he said. And if that’s Santa Claus, then I’m Santa Claus.
Inspired by Higinbogthams incredible act of kindness? You may not be able to make hundreds of toys to give to children this Christmas, but there are other ways to make a childs holiday brighter. You can donate to a Toys for Tots program (click here to find a drop off location in your area), or you can organize a toy drive at your job or in your community (this article has some good tips on how to get started). Lets #StartSomethingGood together.
