11-year-old Kade Johnson might have had the best birthday ever. But it didnt start out that way. When none of his friends showed up to his party, his dad, Jason Foster, posted a photo of Kade to Twitter to try and round up some support for his son.
Since Kade was wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey in the photo, Foster tagged the team in his post along with his favorite players, Mitchell Marner and John Tavares. Soon after, replies and retweets started pouring in including a few shout-outs from some very famous people who share Kades affection for the Leafs. Ben Stiller, Mark Hamill, even Canadas Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, all sent well wishes to the boy to help him feel better.
As Kades story trickled through the media, the Maple Leafs reached out and offered to fly Kade and his family from their home in Newfoundland to Toronto for an upcoming home game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Kade and his family were the guests of honor at the game, and along with seeing his favorite team play, he got to watch the morning skate and meet some of his idols in their locker room. A sweet video posted by the Leafs shows a starstruck Kade shaking hands with players Jason Spezza, Morgan Rielly and a few others.
To top it off, Kade was serenaded by people in the stands who sang him Happy Birthday while the teams mascot, Carlton the Bear, wheeled him out a Leafs-themed cake.
The Maple Leafs lost the game to the Flyers that day 3-2, but were sure it will be a birthday that Kade and his family will never forget. Kudos to the team for going out of their way to make a young fan feel special.
Inspired by the Toronto Maple Leafs amazing act of kindness? You may not be able to pay for someone to go see their favorite sports team play, but you can take the time to wish someone a happy birthday, or do something small to make them feel special. A little bit of kindness is all it takes! Lets #StartSomethingGood together.
