When the day started, few people knew that World War II veteran William Smith had passed or that he even existed, but that was about to change. Smith passed away on November 1st at a hospital in Uniontown, PA. He is one of the many forgotten from America’s Greatest Generation that would have been entirely missed if not for the efforts a funeral director. John Fabry explains how it all came together.
Service And Honor
When we heard that Fabry was looking for people to help lay this gentleman to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, we helped put out the word and wouldn’t you know it… people listened.
There weren’t hundreds showing up, but a couple of dozen strangers did turn out to remember Mr. Smith and pay him the respect every service member deserves. Here’s a video we put together so you can see how beautiful it all turned out.
Missing In America Project (MIAP)
William Smith is not alone by any stretch. There are thousands out there just like him, but there is at least one group working to change that. You can learn more about the Missing In America Project in the following story by my colleague Anne Linaberger.
