Teen Jewelry Makers Give Hope And Inspiration


When you think of a high school metal shop class you probably think of heavy duty machinery and a room full of teenage boys. The moment you step foot in the classroom at Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood, that stereotype melts. So will your heart when you see how they’re learning jewelry making skills and creating special pieces for cancer victims and survivors.

Sparkt founder and CEO Marty Griffin has put his cancer battle out there to teach people about HPV-related cancers and how they can be prevented. These amazing kids and their retired teacher, Julie Farber, took note and asked to make a special piece for Marty from the Jewelry Love program.
